During recent years chelating ion-exchange resins with selectivity for metal ions have found increasing use in analytical chemistry, industry and other applications. In spite of the great research activity dealing with these resins, very few equilibrium constants for metal chelates can be found in the literature. Our group has developed methods for determination of equilibrium constants for these systems.Parts of the results, mainly dealing with the iminodiacetic acid based resin (Dowex A-1), have so far been published. The stability constants determined can be used for development and optimization of separation processes. Our research is continuing with the development of theories for synthetic ion-exhange resins and also with application of the equilibrium models to natural chelating resins.
